Your online income tax filing is completed on a personal computer and transmitted through a secure connection to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The IRS checks the return and notifies the transmitter (either you or your tax preparer) whether the income tax e-file is accepted or rejected.
If the IRS accepts your online income tax filing (usually within 24 hours), the state return is transmitted to the Idaho State Tax Commission. The state online income tax filing is usually received within three days of the initial transmission. The IRS issues acknowledgments (electronic confirmations) when the federal and state online income tax filings are received and accepted or returned for correction. An acknowledgment is also issued by the Idaho State Tax Commission that the online income tax filing has been recieved. It does not indicate if there are any errors. Idaho will not reject any income tax e-file received. All inaccurate and incomplete income tax e-files will be corrected through normal error resolution procedures. The agency will contact you if more information is needed to correct errors. The Idaho income tax e-file acknowledgment is separate from the IRS acknowledgment. Receiving the IRS acknowledgment does not mean the state income tax e-file was received by the Idaho State Tax Commission. OnLine Taxes will send you an e-mail notification of the acknowledgement, or you can log in at any time to check on the status of your income tax e-file.
