Running Behind?  File an Extension!

OnLine Taxes is offering to file FREE extensions to file your tax return. You now have the option available to electronically file an extension.

If you are a current customer and your return has been sent back by the IRS for correction after April 1, we will automatically file an extension for you. If you filed prior to April 1, and your return was not accepted, you will need to log back in and make your corrections (contact customer service if you need assistance). Then continue until your return has been resubmitted. Your extension will then be electronically filed.

You can print out a copy for your records by clicking on the link to Examine Your Return. Click on the link for Form 4868. (If you had previously requested printing and paid the $3.95, we will mail you a copy).

Get Your Taxes Done for Only $9.95

Electronically file your federal tax return for only $9.95.  OnLine Taxes offers an easy "fill in the blank" program to taxpayers who file 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ tax returns.  File your state tax return for only $5.95.  OnLine Taxes also offers a variety of easy payment options.  You can pay by credit card, pay from your refund, or pay from a refund loan.

When you pay from your refund or get a refund loan, your tax refund gets processed through a third party bank, Santa Barbara Bank and Trust. SBBT will receive your refund and then take out OnLine Taxes fee (s) and their bank processing fee and then direct deposit the remainder of your refund into your bank account.  SBBT charges $12 to process the pay from refund option.  They charge anywhere from $29 to $94 for the refund loan option, depending on the amount of refund you are getting back.  Log on to OnLine Taxes now and get your tax return filed and your refund back fast.

Important Tax Deadlines

As tax season is gearing up for the final rush of April 15, taxpayers are scurrying around gathering all important tax documents.  OnLine Taxes is prepared to help everyone meet the April 15 deadline.  A timely filed tax return needs to be filed with the IRS on or before April 15.

However, if you electronically file your return on April 15 and the IRS sends it back for corrections, you have until April 20 to get your return retransmitted and accepted by the IRS.

If you need more time and would like to take advantage of our FREE extension filing (IRS Form 4868), you have until April 15 to get your extension transmitted.  Just like your return, if your extension is sent back you have until April 20 to retransmit.

Other important dates:

April 15 - last date for timely filed returns

April 20 - last date for corrected timely filed returns

August 15  - last date for transmitting returns on extension from Form 4868.

August 15  - last date to mail  2nd extension *(IRS Form 2688).

October 15 - last date for
electronic filing

*Please note that you may get IRS Form 2688 from our web site to use for a second extension.  Complete the personal information and mail to the IRS.

The IRS will not accept electronically filed returns after October 15.  After this date all returns must be paper filed.

Haven't Started Your Taxes Yet?
If you are not a current customer and would like to file an extension, OnLine Taxes will be glad to help you. Simply log in to the site using the primary taxpayer SSN and a password of your choice. Enter your personal information, your filing status and your spouse information (if applicable). This information is necessary to file an extension.

When you are ready to complete your return for filing, that information will already be there for you.

To access your Form 4868 for printing, check on the box after entering your personal and filing status information. Click on the link that says Form 4868 Extension Request. We will then electronically file your extension and you can then log back in later to complete your return and transmit to the IRS. You will need to print Form 4868 and keep a copy for your records.  This form will be listed with your other tax forms.

EXTENSION RULES

Extensions have to be filed by April 15th.

An extension is a request for additional time to file, not additional time to pay. If you are going to owe, you have to mail in your payment by April 15 to avoid penalty.

If you are due a refund, it is not necessary to file an extension. There is no penalty for late filing unless you owe the IRS.

An extension allows you to file your 2003 return by August 15th, 2004. You may file an additional extension to give you until October 15th, 2002. Please note that we will not file this later extension for you, but you may print out the form to mail in.
