When will you receive your refund?

The IRS has issued a 2004 Refund Cycle Chart giving taxpayers an idea of when to expect their refunds to be deposited into their accounts. The IRS releases refunds on Fridays. Taxpayers who electronically file their returns and choose to have their refund direct deposited into their bank accounts usually receive their refund within 8-14 days. Taxpayers choosing to have their refund mailed to them usually receive their refund in 15-21 days. Electronically filed returns accepted by the IRS by noon on Thursday should receive a direct deposit refund the following Friday. If the IRS for some reason holds a refund, taxpayers may call 1-800-829-1040 to find out the reason. Please remember that your refund comes from the IRS and OnLine Taxes has no control of when the IRS sends out refunds. We have included the link to the IRS refund cycle chart here: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p2043.pdf.

Don't Forget - Advanced Child Tax Credit

When going through the program, don't forget to enter the amount of money you received last August for the Advance Child Tax Credit. The IRS issued checks to eligible taxpayers for the increase in the Child Tax Credit from $600 per child to $1000 per child. Taxpayers received $400 per child claimed on their 2002 tax return. If you cannot remember the exact amount you received, please visit the IRS website at www.irs.gov.

You will need to click on the Advanced Child Tax Credit link and enter some of your information from your 2002 tax return. Also, if you are not claiming the child that you received the advanced payment for this year, you do not have to pay the money back and it will not affect your 2003 tax return.

Itemize Your Deductions!

Do you need more than just the standard deduction to help cut your taxes?

If you have enough medical expenses, mortgage interest, contributions, and unreimbursed job expenses you can  itemize your deductions.  You can claim out of pocket expenses you paid for health insurance, medication, doctor visits, dentist visits and even the cost of participation in a weight-loss program as treatment for a specific disease.  However, these expenses must not have been reimbursed by insurance, paid by others or paid from a cafeteria plan.  Your mortgage interest, personal property taxes, real estate taxes, and state and local taxes are deductible.

Any contributions made to charities are also included in itemized deductions.  You can also deduct any unreimbursed job expenses, such as, job travel, union dues and job education.  Any fees paid for tax preparation are included as well.  OnLine Taxes offers a long form 1040 so taxpayers who choose to itemize can do so.  Log on to www.online-taxes.com and get started today!
