This can happen when there is joint custody of a child and a misunderstanding on who will claim the dependent. The IRS allows a SSN to be claimed only once during each tax year. You may not split the credit for a dependent with another individual. For joint custody purposes you must decide which parent will claim the credit each year. This error is stating that a return has already been accepted with this DCN (Declaration Control Number). The DCN on your return has been used on a previously accepted electronic return for the current processing year. (This is usually due to a double-transmission.)
