Payment Options

To Pay by Credit Card: If you filed a Connecticut income tax return for the prior year, you may pay your Connecticut income tax payment using your Discover, MasterCard , Visa, or American Express Card. A convenience fee of 2.5% of the amount you are charging to your card will be charged by the credit card service provider. You will be informed of the amount of the fee and you may elect to cancel the transaction. At the end of the transaction, you will be given a confirmation number for your records.

  • Telephone Official Payments Corporation toll-free at 1-888-2PAY-TAX (1-888-272-9829) and follow the voice prompts. Have your credit card ready. You will be asked to enter your 4-digit jurisdiction code. The 4-digit code for Connecticut is 1777. Follow the voice prompts to complete the transaction. A convenience fee of 2.5% of the amount you are charging to your card will be charged by the credit card service provider. At the completion of the transaction you will be given a confirmation number for your records; or
  • Visit: www.officialpayments.com and select Payment Center. Your payment will be effective on the date you make the charge.

To Pay by Mail: Make your check or money order payable to the "Commissioner of Revenue Services." To ensure proper posting of your payment, write your Social Security Number(s) and "2005 Connecticut Income Tax" on the front of your check or money order. Be sure to sign your check and paper clip it to the front of your return. Do not send cash. Remember: To avoid penalty and interest, your balance must be paid on or before the due date of the return (generally April 15th). To be timely, the check must be received or must bear a U.S. postmark on or before that date. For other timely mailing options see the Connecticut income tax instructions for mailing the return. Any balance still outstanding as of April 16 will be subject to 10% penalty. Interest will also be assessed at the rate of 1% per month or fraction of a month until payment is made.
