05 LITERACY VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA NJ FUND

Millions of adults in NJ cannot read, write, or speak English well enough to successfully complete everyday tasks. Since 1979, Literacy Volunteers of America - NJ (LVA-NJ) has helped to develop, strengthen, and support the operation of local tutoring programs throughout NJ. These programs use trained volunteers to provide free, one-to-one tutoring to adults at the lowest levels of literacy. Although 5,000 adults were tutored last year, thousands more remain on waiting lists.
