In determining the net amount of use tax due, sales tax paid to certain other states may be taken as credit. Use tax is due 20 days after the items enter New Jersey. Use Form ST-18 to remit the use tax on a more timely basis. You should know that New Jersey does have access to records maintained by out-of-State businesses and does bill customers directly for use tax including penalty and interest. If you owe use tax and are remitting it with Form NJ-1040, enter the amount on the next screen after answering yes. If you owe no use tax, enter no.
