Balance Due Payment Options
Electronically filed balance due returns are afforded payment options not available to paper filed returns. There are three payment options; Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW) the IT-140V Payment Voucher, and Credit Card. For those taxpayers who prefer to pay as they go, EFW deducts the payment straight from their checking account on the date the return is filed or the taxpayer can choose to delay payment until the tax due date, usually April 15. This can be done up to the tax filing deadline. After that, the filing date is the only choice for EFW. For those who are less comfortable with the EFW process, payment can be made using the IT-140V Payment Voucher. Taxpayers can still take advantage of the accuracy and acknowledgment features of e-file, but not pay until the tax deadline, the same as paper filing. Its the best of both worlds. After the official tax due date or for returns filed with extensions, the IT-140V must be used. Credit Card Official Payments Corp. will process payments made by credit card for both the Internal Revenue Service and West Virginia State Tax Department. A confirmation number will be given for the transaction. For information or to make payments by credit card, contact Official Payments Corp. at 1-800-2PAY-TAX or www.officialpayments.com.
