2006 Education Property Tax Payment Program You may be eligible for a payment from the state to assist paying the current year education property tax if you: - Were a VT resident for all of calendar year 2005 - Are not claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer in tax year 2005 - Own or occupy the property as your VT homestead

NOTE: Availability of the payment mathmatically phases out at $88,000. This claim is filed on Form HS-138 and must be filed by December 1, 2006. Late filed forms cannot be accepted. No extension is available.

Checks for this claim will not be mailed before July. With the exception of July due dates, payments are issued approximately 30 days prior to the first due date of the school property tax in your town. If you file close to or after your school property tax due date, you will need to allow 45 days processing time before a payment can be issued. A payment can not be issued if your town has not passsed a school budget.
