Pin Error

PIN Error for Primary Taxpayer:
'PrimaryPriorYearPIN' or 'PrimaryPriorYearAGIAmt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database.

PIN Error for Spouse:
'SpousePriorYearPIN' or 'SpousePriorYearAGIAmt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database.

Solution:
For those two pin errors, the solution is similar. If the pin error is for the primary, then apply this solution to the primary taxpayer, and for the spouse, apply to the spouse.

The IRS uses the following entries to verify the filers:
(1) Last Year Adjusted Gross Income or
(2) Last Year Pin
If one of those entries matches the IRS database, you will receive e-file acceptance.

Frequently Asked Questions about Pin Errors:
  1. I filled out Last Year Adjusted Gross Income and the IRS rejected it.
Answer: Verify and correct the value then resubmit your tax return. *Note: If you filed late last year, the IRS database may not get updated. You should try to change the last year adjusted gross income to $0 and resubmit.*

Birthdate Error

Birthdate Error for Primary Taxpayer:
The error description can be long. You know that it is birthday error for Primary Taxpayer if there is a sentence saying 'PrimaryBirthDt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database.

Birthdate Error for Spouse:
The error description can be long. You know that it is birthday error for Spouse if there is a sentence saying 'SpouseBirthDt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database.

Solution:
For the birthday errors for primary or spouse, the solution is similar. If the error is for the primary, then apply this solution to the primary taxpayer, and for the spouse, apply to the spouse.

The error indicates that the Date of Birth does not match the IRS database. Log-in to your account to correct this data. Save the changes. Resubmit the return. If the date of birth was correct in the first place, but the return was rejected with the above error, it is likely that the IRS database has a different date of birth. Please call the Social Security Administration (SSA) to verify the date of birth. The SSA is the gate keeper of the IRS database. If the SSA database has incorrect date of birth, request them to correct it. It may take several weeks before the e-file database gets updated. You can either mail in your tax return for paper filing, or wait a few weeks and resubmit it again. If your tax return keeps getting rejected for the same problem, you will need to mail in your tax return.
